Founded in 1752 by English Puritans who traveled all the way from Dorchester, South Carolina, to put down roots in what became Liberty County, this small city carries a remarkable weight of history. Two of Georgia’s three signers of the Declaration of Independence had ties to this community — and in 1777, the county was named Liberty in honor of the spirit that defined it.
Today, Midway’s motto is “A growing city with a hometown feel,” and that balance describes it well. It’s a community near I-95 with modern conveniences and new growth, but with the Midway Historic District, the 1792 Midway Congregational Church, and its deep community roots firmly intact.
